Irc was the original chat room... In addition to chatting you could transfer files (it's primary use now-a-days. IRC stands for Internet.Relay.Chat. There is much more power in irc than there is from a typical aol chat room. Be sure to check your mirc settings however any make sure auto-receive and what not are off... so you don't get all disease ridden when you wander into a random channel.

Why should you join?
Don't ask, just do and wait for more than 20 secs. Like turels said - idle, don't leave. This is a great way to get to know people from here.

Again answerd. IRC is the best chat out there. Sure its a little basic but its fast, efficent and, you know, not ***. Join #hidden-street or whatever the use as a help channel and ask them to help you disable the auto options so you don't get virused.

What should I do there?
1) Be nice.
2) Don't be a noob. So no item begs.
3) Try to lay off the net speak. Its not like you have a balrog chaseing you, take the time to type out the word 'you'.
If your going to go afk for more than 10 minutes set your nick to <name>|afk or something. Use /nick newname to change it.
4) No, you can't have ops. Don't ask for it.

You will need mirc (www.mirc.com). Down it and fill in the fields. I suggest putting your last name as private. once loaded type

/server irc.darkmyst.org
/join #hiddenstreet

Irc will not steal, hack, bot, blah, spam, steal, hack, etc your maple accounts unless you let it download stuff like that, hence the disabling of the auto options. After the 30 days of trail for mirc, just wait a few secs for the ok button to come up.

I'm still trying to find a way to defeat the firewall at the office at work. I have an IRC client for my PDA but man it sucks the power right off the PDA. Have to order an extra charger for it if I am going to be thumbing it from work when I'm not in the air.

Not sure how you would do it but I'd make a java applett to send the data as http then server side translate it into irc, send it on, recive, translate back into http. Pull down peer gaurdian2 also. If you can get it to run then it gives a list of incoming data. Look for a port that isnt used by mail, web, etc and send it in that. Of course all this fails if ping's been blocked at the router.

Whats with this channel? Is it me or are the admin's totally f'ucked up. I get into the channel and just plainly say 'hello', and so i get "shut up *****" and blah blah for no appearent reason and a boot and then a ban. You may also be confusing it with a url link - its a irc program open -> connect link.

In the mIRC options box, click Add (server)

In the description, just type anything (Darkmyst is the server name, go ahead and type that)

In IRC server, type irc.darkmyst.org

Port number is 6667

Press OK

Look up at your top left. Directly under the File text is a thunderbolt. Click it.

Give it a few seconds to connect to the server, then type /join #hiddenstreet

Join the channel and don't act stupid.
